The Ukrainian State Scientific Center of Artillery and Rifle Arms (SSTC ARA) has developed to the prototype stage a 125 mm 50 calibre smoothbore tank gun called Vitiaz.

This has been designed to be installed in a MBT and would be fed by an automatic loader which would feed the projectile and then the charge into the breech.

According to the SSTC ARA it can be installed into new design MBTs as well as being retrofitted into current MBTs such as the T-64, T-72, T-80UD and T-84.

The 125 mm Vitiaz smooth bore gun has been designed to operate in temperature ranges from -50 to +50°C.

An APFSDS projectile would weigh 7 kg with the penetrator weighing 5 kg. This would penetrate 380 mm of conventional steel armour at an angle of 60°. The second nature of ammunition is high explosive fragmentation.
