Arquus Fortress is a 4x4 armored personnel carrier developed by the French manufacturer of land defense systems Arquus Defense (formerly Renault Trucks Defense).
Fortress is a universal battle-tested vehicle designed in accordance with NATO standards. The armored personnel carrier is able to withstand extreme conditions, providing a balanced ratio of weight and power. It has excellent mobility in any type of terrain, and also provides optimum comfort for the crew and the troops on board.
All-terrain vehicle is in service with various special forces units around the world. Arquus demonstrated a version of the Fortress, armed with a Hornet T1 Remotely Controlled Weapon Station at IDEX 2019, which was held in Abu Dhabi (UAE) in February 2019.
The Fortress armored personnel carrier is based on a robust multipurpose platform developed in accordance with existing military and NATO standards.
The vehicle has an armored all-welded hull, which provides maximum protection for the crew and troops. The cabin can accommodate two crew members, and in the troop compartment - eight people with full equipment.
The Fortress armored personnel carrier has various equipment and systems, such as power management, navigation, position and gradient indication systems, radio and intercom, battle management system (BMS) and crew monitors. Three types of integrated combat network systems can be installed on the vehicle: Battlenet Select, Battlenet Prime and Battlenet Elite.
Battlenet Select includes a 12-inch touchscreen operator tablet, a video coder, four perimeter cameras, a GPS antenna, and a controlled network (CAN)/Ethernet gateway.
Battlenet Prime has a 8.4-inch tablet with a touch panel for the driver, a recording system and an inertial sensor, as well as all the equipment and features of Battlenet Select. Additional features include video and image recording, as well as elevation detection.
Battlenet Elite, in addition to all the equipment and features of Battlenet Prime, has a 12-inch tablet for the shooter and a compass. Additional features include course management and 3D mapping.
The armored vehicle is equipped with a number of high-caliber vehicle guns/weapons mounted on the hull. It has a bearing on the roof, which is accessed through hatches.
Arquus can install at Fortress a number of RCWS and turrets, armed with guns of 7.62 mm, 14.5 mm, 12.7 mm and up to 30 mm calibers.
The system has an active protection system built in, which has the ability to detect laser/infrared (IR) radiation, acoustic detection of a sniper and a grenade thrower.
Standard STANAG 4569 protection against mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) is provided.
The armored personnel carrier has a weight of 14.5 tons and is equipped with an engine with a power of 340 hp, coupled with an automatic transmission system. It can reach a maximum speed of 120 km/h and has a maximum range of up to 1,200 km.
An independent wheel suspension system and a powerful transmission make it easy to overcome difficult road sections. The vehicle can overcome rises of 60% and side slopes of 30%. It can cross trenches 0.8 m wide and vertical obstacles 0.5 m high, as well as fording water obstacle up to 1 m deep.
Fortress can be designed in several versions. It is mainly offered as an armored personnel carrier or logistics vehicle. Option armored vehicle designed for the transport of troops and special equipment. It can also be configured as a medical, repair and recovery vehicle, or a mobile command post, to perform the tasks of medical evacuation, repair, command and control, respectively.
The Fortress armored personnel carrier can be transported by air using C-130 and A400M military transport aircraft for rapid deployment during combat missions.
