DEFENDER ROV is a six-wheeled, remote controlled vehicle designed for use in hostile and hazardous environments. The Defender is the result of extensive design programs in both the UK and the US, and is primarily used in Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Large Vehicle Improvised Explosive Device (LVIED) Disruption, Conventional Munitions Disposal and Area Denial and Clearance roles. Additionally it is suited for CBRN situations, SWAT/Public Order, and HAZMAT applications.
The Defender ROV/UGV is a sophisticated and large bomb disposal robot with heavy lifting capability and a very powerful weight to strength ratio that helps bomb techs respond to VBIEDs and CBRN agents.
This EOD/IED disposal robot has a titanium frame and can deploy X-ray systems, explosive charges and multiple disruptors in either a single or double configuration. Its disruptor mounts have integral dual lasers for accurate point of aim and judgement of target distance.
Command-post bomb technicians and operators benefit from its six cameras; PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) colour camera with 360º pan; video and photographic feeds; high-intensity LED lights; and sensitive claw manipulation. The Defender is controlled through the new x500 Integrated Command Portal, which can also be configured to control the Defender's smaller sister robot, the Digital Vanguard EOD Robot.
The x500 controls all robot functions, arm and claw positioning, and cameras. It records two way audio, full HD video and captures still images. Its Graphic User Interface (GUI) can be set to most languages, including the ability to have the operator manuals display in native languages.
The x500 has easy to learn controls, which requires minimal follow-on training. Lightweight and a small footprint for easy portability, it offers a Sunlight Readable Quadra Clear® 39.6cm (15.6”) full HD 1080p (1920x1080) 800 NITs widescreen display. The x500 is rated at IP65 and meets MIL-STD 810G, MIL-STD-461F and ANSI/ISA 12.12.01 standards.
