The Platt MR655 Shielded Ring Mount is a modular protected gun ring designed for armoured vehicles equipped with light, medium and heavy machine guns or 40mm automatic grenade launchers. Armoured against 5.56mm and 7.62mm ball in standard configuration, the MR655 Shielded Ring Mount is currently fitted to a variety of wheeled and tracked light armoured vehicles serving with US and Coalition forces in the Middle East Area of Operations.

With the ability to accept numerous armour protection kits and configurations to suit customer requirements, the baseline MR655 Shielded Ring Mount consists of 8.5mm high hardness armoured shields integrated into a highly reliable weathersealed low-maintenance gun ring for smooth, trouble-free operation in dry and dusty environments. To improve situational awareness, the ring mount shields and front shield can be fitted with ballistic windows. A large armoured inlay hatch with spring assist and combat lock is standard on all versions.

Ease of use and the ability to achieve very high weapon elevation makes the MR655 Shielded Ring Mount ideally suited to operations in complex environments, particularly urban and mountainous terrain. Excellent weapon depression allows for engagement of targets at close ranges.

Reflecting the combat experience of its end users and modular design, the MR655 Shielded Ring Mount is also available with the following options:

• Electric drive gearbox

• Elevation arm belly plate

• Overhead Protection Kit (OHPK)

• Modular A-Frame

• Rapid reaction T&E bar

• Adapter ring extension

• High capacity ammunition magazine

Utilising the highly adaptable “plug and play” nature of its design, the MR655 can also be used as the basis for the new Platt Maximus Twin Mount. Both mounts share a common ring bearing.

To meet higher threat levels the MR655 Shielded Ring Mount is able to accept a ceramic-based appliquè armour kit that can be installed to increase protection up to STANAG Level 3.

Alternatively, a bi-metal armour solution consisting of a 6mm HHA inner layer with 4mm UHA outer layer also provides protection to STANAG Level 3.

The Platt Overhead Protection Kit (OHPK) provides additional operator protection against threats from all angles, including overhead and behind. Fitted with a hatch, lifting points and able to accommodate ballistic windows, the OHPK is armoured to STANAG 1 in baseline configuration.

The MR655 Shielded Ring Mount can be fitted with a variety of armoured adapter ring extensions to provide increased deck/roof clearance.

The MR655 Shielded Ring Mount when fitted with the Overhead Protection Kit is still able to achieve weapon elevation of +60 degrees.
