The project of the Typhoon multipurpose vehicle is jointly developed by the KamAZ and Ural.
The main distinguishing feature of the project is the modularity of the design, thanks to which a family of wheeled vehicles is built on the common chassis. It is known about two variants of the family of Typhoon vehicles - Typhoon-K armored vehicles and Typhoon-U universal tactical trucks.
At the RAE-2013 exhibition in Nizhny Tagil (Russia) three types of the Typhoon-K family were represented: KAMAZ-53949, KAMAZ-63968 and KAMAZ-63969.
Vehiicles of the Typhoon series are equipped with an independent hydropneumatic suspension.
KAMAZ-63968 is vehicle of MRAP category (Mine Resistent Ambush Protected). It is a truck with mine protection and armor, which protects against small arms and splinters. It was first demonstrated in 2010.
KAMAZ-63968 has a frame-modular design with a central engine arrangement. It is powered by turbodiesel YaMZ-5367 450 hp. The transmission is 6x6/4 configuration (the front and middle axles are controlled).
Crew - 2 people, troops - 16 people. The curb weight is 21 000 kg, the total weight is 24 000 kg. The maximum speed is 80 km/h, maximum range is 630 km. The fuel consumption is not more than 35 l/100 km.

KAMAZ-63968 is equipped with holders for weapons of personnel, a NBC protection system FVUA-100A, air conditioning, a triple cab with a sleeping place and two protective screens. There is a central automatic tire inflation system capable of changing the tire pressure from 1 to 4.5 atm, depending on the road condition.

To reduce the probability of damage to the crew during the blasting on the mine, the seats have a suspension system for attaching to the roof, seat belts and head restraints for fixing the head. There are holders for personal weapons. Soldiers equipment can be placed in the cabin, under the seats. If necessary, headrests can be quickly removed from the hull and fire through the ports. Firing from the vehicle possible by remote controlled weapon station, which is optionally installed on the roof.
Crew entrance and exit through the doors on the sides of the cabin. The landing can be carried out via a rear ramp. On the roof there are emergency hatches. Each door is equipped with a five-point lock. To increase situational awareness of the crew installed 5 cameras - two in front, the others on the sides and rear. It is possible to display the image on the screen as from one camera, and from all at once.
The approximate cost of the vehicle is 60 million rubles ($ 1 million).
