The ERC 90 NG is a new generation of the ERC (Engin de Reconnaissance à Canon). It is essentially the upgraded model ordered by the French army, with a new powertrain comprising a more powerful MTU 170 hp engine and six-speed Renk automatic gearbox. The increased power allows a modernized electrical turret drive and eases workload for the crew in combat conditions.
Armor protection has been upgraded to NATO STANAG level 3 in the front and level 2 for the rest of the vehicle.
The ERC 90 NG is the new generation of the ERC (Engin de Reconnaissance à Canon), a 6x6 chassis vehicle developed in the eighties. This 10 tons light tank, fitted with a 90mm gun, has been the spearhead of the French army for two decades.
The tank is easily transportable by C-130 or C-160, and has been used in nearly all overseas operations. Its tactical and operational mobility, along with the deterrent nature of its 90mm gun, able to fire anti-tank munitions, have made it a valuable tool for interposition forces. Better protected (CMI Cockerill CSE90), the new generation nof ERC90 fit exactly to the needs of actual theatres of operations.
