The PLZ-07 is a Chinese tracked self-propelled howitzer armoured vehicle designed and manufactured by the China North Industries Group Corporation (NORINCO). The PLZ-07 self-propelled howitzer was presented for the first time to the public during the military parade in Beijing for the 60th anniversary of the Chinese army (PLA), the 01 October 2009. The PLZ-07 has been in service with PLA (People's Liberation Army), Chinese Army. The PLZ-07 has been developed to replace the older 122 mm self-propelled howitzers in service with the People's Liberation Army, which include the Type 89, Type 85 and Type 70/70-1 systems.
The main armament of the PLZ-07 is composed by a 122 mm gun. A 12.7 mm machine gun is mouted to the roof of the turret as anti-aircraft protection. Two lines of four smoke grenade launchers are mounted to each side of the turret.
The hull and the turret of the PLZ-07 is made of high hardness armor steel, which provide a protection against small arms firing and shell splinters of the battle field.
The PLZ-07 is motorized with a 440 Kw Diesel engine powerpack mounted at the right of the drivers position with the air inlet and out louvers in the roof. The torsion bar suspension is composed to each side with six rubber-tyred road wheels and three track support rollers on each side, drive sprocket at the front and idler at the rear.
The PLZ-07 is equipped with an NBC protection and automatic fire suppression system.
