The 122 mm howitzer D-30J is a Serbian version of the Russian 122 mm howitzer D-30 with minor differences. Full details of the Russian 122 mm D-30 are given in a separate entry. Details provided are for the few changes from the original, using data supplied by Serbia.
The D-30J is fitted with a more simple double-baffle muzzle brake.
Installation of a hydraulic firing jack (in place of the normal mechanical jack) is claimed to facilitate and speed up handling of the weapon in the firing position.
The maximum range when firing a standard HE projectile with a full charge is given as 17,300 m. The D-30J can fire the full family of ammunition developed for the Russian D-30. The former Yugoslavia had under development an M82 HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) projectile fitted with a UT PE M82 fuze and an M82 illuminating projectile fitted with an ETU 102 time fuze. The Serbian M76 projectile has a maximum range of 17,300 m. The M76 projectile with full charge has an m/v of 730 m/s, while the TF-462 projectile has variable charge from 276 to 565 m/s.
Iraq manufactured a version of the 122 mm D-30J under the local name of the Saddam. Production of this is complete and as far as it is known it was not exported.
RH ALAN of Croatia has built a further development of the D-30 called the 122 mm howitzer D-30 RH M94 which, firing an extended range full bore-base bleed projectile, has a maximum range of 20,050 m. Full details of this system are given in a separate entry. The D-30 RH 94 has been offered on the export market. There are however no known export sales of the D-30 RH 94 weapon as of early 2008.
This uses a D-30J carriage and a 100 mm ordnance. It is used by Croatia and Serbia and Montenegro.
This is a 122 mm D-30J carriage fitted with a 100 mm ordnance for use in the anti-tank role. It never entered production or service as far as it is known.
