The RPX 3000 light armoured vehicle was developed as a private venture by LOHR and the first prototype was completed in April 1985. The vehicle was shown for the first time at the 1985 Satory Exhibition of Military Equipment. There are no known plans for this vehicle to enter volume production.

The hull of the LOHR RPX 3000 is of all-welded steel construction that provides protection from small arms fire and shell splinters.

The commander and driver sit at the front of the vehicle, each with a windscreen to his front which is covered in action by an armoured shutter. The shutter is hinged at the bottom and folds down on the front of the vehicle when not required. Each shutter has vision slits.

Both the commander and driver have a rear-opening single-piece hatch cover and a side door of which the upper part opens to the rear and the lower part folds down to form a step. There is an additional observation window between the side and front windscreen.

On the forward part of the hull roof on the right side is a swivel mount for a 7.62 mm machine gun which can be operated by the commander or driver.

The engine compartment is in the centre of the vehicle with inlet/outlet louvres in the sides of the hull and the exhaust pipe running along the right side of the hull.

The commercial BMW diesel engine is mounted crosswise in the hull and is coupled to a ZF fully automatic transmission on the left side and a two-speed transfer box.

At the rear of the hull is a troop/scout compartment with two seats and entry to this is via a door in the hull rear. There is also a single-piece hatch cover over the troop compartment that opens to the left. A variety of weapon stations can be mounted here, for example a 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm machine gun or a Euromissile MILAN ATGW system.

Optional equipment includes an amphibious capability and an NBC system.
