The SK 105/A1 is a further development of the SK 105 but differs in modifications of the power train and the fire-control equipment.
The manual shift gear is replaced by a ZF 6 HP 600 automatic six-speed transmission with torque converter and lock-up clutch.
The fire-control equipment consists of an electronic fire-control system including a digital fire-control computer and the respective observation and sighting system. The fire-control system enables the gunner of the SK 105/A1 to independently observe, range and hit the target by an automated simple firing process. The system allows for immediate growth capabilities, such as introducing and storing parameters for additional types of ammunition.
The major components are: 'digital fire-control computer unit including commander's operating panel and cant angle sensor, single reticle gunner's sight including laser range-finder, day elbow with magnification x8, passive night elbow with magnification x7.2 and interchangeable with a daylight unity prism, moving-view rotating wedges module in elevation and deflection and periscopic mirror head and gunner's control unit. In order to compute the compensation angle in elevation and deflection, the computer is fed with data from several sources, according to the type of firing: range data from the laser range-finder, side cant of the tank from the built-in cant angle sensor, target velocity from angular velocity and displacement sensor for tracking moving targets. The computer enables automatic computed firing corrections for firing in conformance with the type of ammunition and target range, in order to improve second hit probability.
The commander is provided with a passive night sight, interchangeable with the day sight.
As of 1999 this remained at the prototype stage.
