Product type: Armoured Vehicles
Name: Nuclear/biological/chemical reconnaissance vehicle

HazMat

The HazMat Reconnaissance Vehicle represents a cost-effective solution based on a commercial available van. In the field of N- and C-Reconnaissance, it provides analytic performance capabilities, which offer several improvement possibilities according to customer requirements. Due to the HazMat Recon Vehicles mission profile, it is possible to do without armour protection, NBC protection ventilation and air condition in the basic version.

The measurement equipment of the NBC Reconnaissance Vehicle is integrated in a containerwith autonomous power supply (set of batteries). The measuring system enables a computer-controlled acquisition, evaluation, filing and presentation of radioactive and chemical data related to the respective position coordinates. The integrated power supply permits the unlimited deployment of the measurement system fora minimum of four hours without needing any back up by an external power supply. The system is designed in such a way that it can be integrated into a carrier vehicle with only minimum effort.

Due to its system structure, the system permits the integration of a number of different detectors. At present, the system has interfaces with the following measuring devices:

  • Nuclear Radiation Detection

The probe enables gamma dose and dose performance measurement in a measurement range from 0.1 uSv/htol Sv/h.The measurable spectral energy covers 50 keV to 2 MeV.

With additional probes, the device can distinguish between natural background and artificial radiation.

  • Chemical Detection

The PID permits the continuous unspecific detection of unknown chemical substances as well as a quantitative definition of known organic and inorganic gases. Presently, the measurement device has a database including about fifty chemicals whose ionisation potentials and response factors are stored.

The Ion Mobility Spectrometer (IMS) enables the permanent monitoring of the ambient air in order to warn of chemical warfare agents and further hazardous substances such as sulphur dioxide, ammonia, chlorine, hydro-cyanic acid, tetrachlorethene, nitrogen dioxide, TDI, S-Lost, VX, GA, GBandGD.

The sensors can be operated either from the inside of the vehicle or from the outside. Operation from the vehicle interior is carried out via the indication and control software (ICS). The ICS receives the position coordinates and the measurement time from the vehicle navigation system. During autonomous operation outside the vehicle, the data are recorded by the integrated data memory and they are transmitted to the evaluation unit when reconnected to the measuring container. The remote data transmission between the HazMat reconnaissance vehicles and the higher mission command is carried out via the GSM net.

  • Option: Biological Measurement Vehicle

The biological measurement equipment is available as an option and is integrated warfare agents.

In detail, it offers the following capabilities:

  • Proof of infectious agents and toxins in environment samplings as well as collection of active microorganisms and virus.

  • Quick proof of biological warfare agents and toxins as a basis for due time warning.

  • Proper supply of biological samples to the respective laboratory.
