The smaller SOLEM robot is a suitcase-portable system that uses a pan/tilt mast and various types of cameras for field surveillance and reconnaissance. It is controlled through a two-way RF or fiber optic link from the OCU. It is equipped with drive wheel encoders, a three-axis compass, and arm potentiometers to give the operator real-time vehicle positional feedback. A compact, wearable OCU is available with features such as virtual reality goggles, a handheld control unit, and vest-mounted electronics.
Three OCU versions are available including wearable, lunch box size, and the master attaché sized control station. All units are configured for fiber optic, cable, and/or RF control. The ability to record and store mission events is also available.
Over 60 payloads, sensors, and mission packages have been built and fielded including multiple camera types (color, monochrome, zoom, IR, thermal), two-stage arms, grippers, manipulators, pan/tilt, two-way communications, sonar, underwater sensors, NBC (nuclear/biological/chemical) sensors, UXO/countermine detection, grenade and smoke-placing modules, breaching tools, communications equipment, distracters and disrupters.
