The Special Design Bureau of Machine Building (SKBM) was organized as the "Special Design Bureau" (SKB) in the structure of the Kurgan Machine Building Plant in 1954.
In 1992, SKB was transformed into an Open Joint-Stock Company. At present, SKBM is the leading organization for the design and industrial development of Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV), the most representative of which are: BMP-1, BMP-2, BMP-3. A wide range of IFV modifications is being developed and new combat vehicles are being built on the BMP chassis.
Developed products are of high technical level and competitive in the world market. Tracked chassis developed by SKBM on the BMP basis provides ample opportunities for the creation of various combat vehicles and combat support vehicles, in the interests of domestic and foreign customers. SKBM conducts extensive work on product modernization programs.
Addition to the development of military products, SKBM has developed and supporting the serial production of a large range of civilian products.
The SKBM team has extensive experience in the development of products for various purposes and it cooperates with many scientific and technical organizations and enterprises of Russia.
SKBM applies advanced design methods using computer technology. Workplaces are united in a computer network that allows to solve a wide range of research, design, development and technological tasks in a single information space.
