MAN, one of Europe's traditional truck manufacturers, commenced production of commercial vehicles for civilian and military deployment in 1915. The building of all-wheel drive military vehicles for off-road operation started early on, experience from the civilian vehicles benefiting the military vehicles - and vice versa. The effects of large-scale production of all the major components that go into a commercial vehicle are long service life (high durability), a cost-benefit ratio which is right for the market and advantageous spare part logistics. A dense service and workshop network in many countries ensures short vehicle downtimes and rapid spare parts back-up. Trucks - chassis for fixed and interchangeable bodies of all types, semi-trailer tractors and tippers with outputs of between 75 and 463 kW (102 to 630 hp) and six to 48 tons permissible gross vehicle weight. Specially designed high-mobility off-road trucks. Buses - touring coaches, scheduled service buses, articulated buses. Engines - diesel engines for industrial and automotive uses with rating up to 935 kW (1300 hp). Diesel engines for marine power systems with ratings up to 882 kW (1200 hp). Gas engines with ratings up to 205 kW (280 hp). Components - axles, transfer cases, cabs, pressed parts, tools, cast parts. |
