Grintek Communication Systems (GCS) is a leading worldwide supplier of tactical communication products and systems for defence forces, and security and law enforcement agencies. GCS specialises in offering customised solutions to customers? communication requirements and has more than 35 years of experience in the fields of design, manufacture and support.

GCS is part of the Grintek group of companies that have their origin in the well-known British company, Racal, who started operations in South Africa during the 1960s. Today, GCS is a fully independent organisation in the diverse and internationalised business operations of the group. Through Grintron (Pty) Ltd, which is 51% owned by Grintek Ltd and 49% by Saab of Sweden, GCS aims to grow market penetration, especially in the export sector. As a main supplier of communication equipment to the South African National Defence Force, GCS has gained significant experience over the years to direct its technology towards real battle conditions.

The company is established on high technical levels of expertise in fields such as RF design, digital signal processing (DSP), data transmission, embedded software, communication protocols and system integration. By utilising cutting edge military as well as best of-breed commercial technologies, GCS provides reliable and up to date products and systems to meet the stringent requirements of their customers.

GCS recently released two exciting new product ranges. The Phoenix Family of high frequency (HF) radio products caters for manpack, vehicle, and base station, airborne and shipboard applications. Covering the full theatre of tactical warfare, the family ensures interoperability and the realisation of joint operations. The GUS 1000is a flexible control and display system for the management of aircraft communications and radio navigation equipment, integrating audio, data and intercom facilities.

In the field of system supply, GCS has vast experience in the integration, supply and commissioning of different products from various OEMs. Examples of GCS solutions include the communication system for the RSA in-flight command and control system, countrywide trunked radio networks, the complete internal/external communication segment onboard ships and submarines as well as the shore-based communication centres. A number of in-house products have been developed for these environments, including audio units, hardware and software interfaces and antenna switching matrix. Through its sister company, Logtronics, GCS ensures logistic support for all its products and systems including training, documentation and spare parts supply.
