Robbox Robot has a mass of 500 kg. It was created as part of the RAPID program. Robbox is 100% French produced, is a program supported by OSEO and the DGA.
The robot has an upper beam connecting two self-propelled uniaxial modules, each of which can have a diesel engine (power of 16.75 hp) or an electric engine (15 kW). The first module has dimensions of 2.4x1.2x0.4 m, and the second one - 1.2x1.5x0.55 m. The ground clearance of 25 cm allows to overcome obstacles well - slopes up to 40 deg., vertical obstacles of 25 cm. The maximum speed with a diesel engine is 40 km/h, with an electric motor - 8 km/h. In the first case, the road range reaches 300 km.
The company Sera Ingégnerie has developed for Robbox three types of control systems:
Nexter and MBDA presented each variant of Robbox at Eurosatory 2015.
A transport sample from the company Nexter was named Mule. It has an upper loading area and a lower cargo hold, the total maximum payload of 400 kg. The robot is equipped with an additional control kit, which includes a GPS system, laser scanners for detecting obstacles. In addition to remote control, there is an automatic mode for following the specified points of the route with the memorization of the path, and also following the letter. The feald trials of this vehicles began in September 2014, and the operational tests were planned for 2015.
The sample from MBDA was designated M2R (multi-sensor air defense platform). In this configuration, Robbox was a passive early warning system for air defense, which canbe deployed automatically to the dominant positions in the period of combat operations without risk to personnel. The M2R robot is equipped with an IR search-tracking station Spynel-X, capable of capturing panoramic images with a resolution of 120 megapixels. at a range of up to 16 km. After the detection of the target, the optoelectronic system, consisting of a day camera and a thermal imager with a large magnification multiplicity, produces identification. At the exhibition in Paris, the robot was presented with a mast sensor Ranger MS from the company Flir Systems. This device can be used for both airborne and ground surveillance.
