Remote-Controlled Light Combat Vehicle (RCLCV) was developed by the Taiwan-based plant 209 in cooperation with the Cheng-Shu University.
For the first time, this robot was presented by the Taiwan Defense Ministry at the TADTE (Taipei Aerospace & Defense Technology Exhibition) in 2015.
RCLCV can be transported on an CM-32 Cloud Leopard Armored Personnel Carrier and used to support a motorized infantry unit in a combat operation.
At the exhibition TADTE 2015, two variants of the robot were demonstrated which differed in equipment mounted on a common tracked base weighing 200 kg.
The first option is for fire support. It has a stabilized platform on which various weapons can be mounted, for example a 5.56-mm M249 light machine gun, a 7.62-mm T74 machine gun (available in Taiwan), a 12.7 mm QCB heavy machine gun, an M72 lightweight anti-tank grenade launcher or APILAS light grenade launcher (French production).
The second option is designed to provide security for hazardous tasks, such as explosive ordnance disposal, mine detection and evacuation of victims. It can be equipped with a manipulator with an electromechanical drive capable of grasping and lifting objects weighing up to 20 kg in an extended position or weighing up to 35 kg in the folded position. The manipulator is removable and can be replaced with other tools, depending on the functions performed.
To monitor the terrain, the vehicle is equipped with an integrated day/night camera system and a laser rangefinder, which transmit video and tactical data in real time to the operator control unit.
The robot has a armor, which protects the integrated devices from the fire of small arms and artillery fragments. In addition, it was specially created with low thermal and acoustic signatures, as well as camouflage coloring that reduces visibility.
The batteries installed on the vehicle provide operability within three hours. Remote control is provided at a distance of up to 300 meters in dense housing conditions or up to 800 meters in open space. For guaranteed operation in conditions with strong electromagnetic interference, control can be carried out by cable.
RCLCV is a fully Taiwanese development. It has a significant percentage of components for commercial use, which reduces the price of the vehicle and the cost of its operation.
