The Caddie (4 x 4) armoured personnel carrier has been developed as a private venture by TFM. The first prototype was completed in 1992 but by mid-1997 the RG-19 Caddie had not entered production.
In mid-1997, the TFM Defence and Security Division was taken over by Reunert and the former's range of products was integrated into a new company called Reunert Defence OMC.
The Caddie is essentially a Mercedes-Benz Unimog 416 (4 x 4) chassis, fitted with an armoured body that provides the crew with protection from small arms fire, shrapnel and anti-personnel mines.
The Unimog 416 chassis has excellent cross-country mobility due to its portal axles and four-wheel drive with differential locks that can be engaged and disengaged in motion. As the Unimog 416 is a standard commercial chassis, spare parts are available all over the world.
The fully protected engine compartment is at the front, with the commander and driver to the immediate rear. The commander and driver each have a bulletproof window to their front and a forward-opening side door in the upper part of which is a large bulletproof window.
The troop compartment is at the rear with four men down either side on individual seats equipped with a seat belt. In either side of the troop compartment are three large bulletproof windows and two firing ports. Normal means of entry and exit is via two large doors in the rear, each of which is provided with a firing port.
Mounted on the roof of the Caddie, towards the rear, is the air conditioning system. A trailer coupling is provided as standard.
