The DN-IV was followed by the DN-V, which appears in at least two versions: the Toro reconnaissance and the Buffalo fire support vehicle. Both are similar in some respects to the LAV-150 (which in the past has been called the Commando) and basic specifications are given in the table. It is understood that 70 of these vehicles are in service.
The standard Toro is fitted with a British Thales Land & Joint Systems FVT900 series one-person turret armed with a 20 mm Oerlikon Contraves cannon and 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun with a bank of four electrically operated smoke grenade launchers being mounted either side of the turret.
The Buffalo version appears to mount the complete turret of the old US-supplied full-tracked 75 mm M8 self-propelled howitzer, which dates back to the Second World War, with a .50 (12.7 mm) M2 machine gun mounted on the open-topped turret for air defence purposes.
It is believed that five of these vehicles are in service. These are the only self-propelled artillery systems in service with Mexico.
There are believed to be at least two mortar versions, one mounting an 81 mm mortar and the other towing a French 120 mm TDA mortar. Recent information has indicated that all of these vehicles have the ability to tow a 120 mm TDA mortar.
