The ability of the Land & Armaments Operating Group to satisfy tomorrow's warfighter needs is also clearly evident in vehicle systems that have been developed and recently rolled out at the BAE Systems facility in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden.

The vehicle family, known as SEP, is derived from a new wheeled vehicle prototype design that was initially unveiled in 2001.

Two wheeled vehicles comprise the SEP family: a SEP 6x6 variant and a newer 8x8 version, which was first rolled out on February 19, 2007. The gross vehicle weight of the 6x6 falls within C-130 air transportable weight limitations. Although the 8x8 provides users with a greater tactical payload capability, the empty vehicle is also C-130 transportable.

Both wheeled vehicle designs feature "next state of the art" technologies that include exchangeable modules that will customize the mobility platform for various tactical applications, based on user needs.

In addition to the two wheeled platform options, the SEP family modular design concept also extends to the future introduction of a tracked chassis that would further expand customer options to tailor ground mobility traits. Moreover, having a core vehicle that could be either wheeled or tracked provides significant additional advantages in terms of a smaller logistics footprint and reduced maintenance costs.

Current SEP development activities include the study and development of various drivetrain alternatives, ranging from traditional mechanical drives to an electric drive concept.

Program goals call for SEP serial deliveries as early as 2011.

Although SEP development is currently under contract to FMV to meet the needs of Sweden's next generation military vehicle system, the program is also well positioned to satisfy the warfighter needs reflected in other emerging national requirements.
