There are many exciting military applications for KEVLARŪ. Fragment- and bullet-resistant vests of KEVLARŪ have protected thousands of military and law enforcement personnel from death and serious injury. Helmets of KEVLARŪ are 25 to 40% more resistant to fragments than their steel predecessors at equal weight.
KEVLARŪ is up to five times stronger than steel on an equal-weight basis. It does not melt or shrink in flame, and only carbonizes at very high temperatures (greater than 840 degrees F.) It's also extremely resistant to a broad range of threats including vehicle accidents, falls, fires, explosions, cuts, etc. KEVLARŪ offers excellent resistance to water and petroleum products, including motor oil and lubricants, and it has superior chemical resistance and is chemically stable under a wide variety of exposure conditions.
Military applications for KEVLARŪ include vests, helmets, gloves, parachutists' rough terrain suits, anti-mine boots, mine removal chaps, explosive ordnance disposal suits and ballistic blankets.
