Name: | Wheeled armoured personnel carrier |
Originally developed as an internal security and public order vehicle, the RG-12 has proved to be highly effective in a number of other applications such as command vehicle, cash-in-transit vehicle, bullion carrier, tactical rescue vehicle, armoured ambulance, armoured logistics vehicle, and surveillance vehicle. In excess of 700 vehicles are in service in several countries worldwide. The RG-12 shares many key components with the RG-31 mine protected vehicle including elements of the driveline.
Offering a high degree of armoured protection, excellent on- and off-road mobility, versatility and outstanding in-service economy, the RG-12 carries a driver, commander and between six and ten personnel. The welded all-steel armoured hull is of monocoque construction with all fittings welded or bolted to the hull.
Full depth doors allow ease of access and egress and enhance operational flexibility. Conventional hinged or pneumatically operated 'plug' type doors are available, dependant on the role the vehicle is to fulfil. The plug type doors remain close to the hull during opening and closing, facilitating deployment of the vehicle in narrow or restricted areas. Large armoured glass windows give the same ballistic protection as the hull structure, while providing excellent all-round vision. Additional metal mesh coverings protect glass surfaces, headlights and rotating beacons.
The RG-12 Mk2 features:
• Improved Auxiliary Power Unit driven air conditioning
• Improved ergonomics
• Improved power-to-weight ratio
• Provision for Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS)and Anti-Skid Braking System (ABS)
The RG-12 Mk2 is readily adaptable to carry the Mobile Adjustable Ramp System (MARS) to enhance its capability as a tactical rescue vehicle.
