Nitrochemie represents the propellants business unit of Rheinmetall Waffe Munition. Their core skill comprise the development and manufacture of chemical products for defence technology and civilian needs. Along with artillery charge systems and propellant powder for large-, medium- and small-calibre applications, combustible molded parts such as cartridge cases are manufactured.
Combustible cartridge cases form an indispensable part of modern high-performance propellants for tank ammunition. In artillery, they are the prerequisite for modular propelling charge systems, which decisively enhance the logistics, cast efficiency and effectiveness of such weapon systems as the 2000 self-propelled howitzer. As ammunition components they help reduce barrel erosion while lowering the ammunition’s sensitivity to external influences. Combustible components are supplied according to the unit’s own and customer specifications. As an advanced ammunition component in this segment, the new modular propelling charge system MTLS has been developed for tank and field howitzers with a long range and rapid firing capability.
